High Dependency Complex Care
Specialist nursing care for the best possible quality of life
Highly dependent complex care is a specialised branch of nursing in which highly dependent patients are cared for through techniques such as artificial ventilation, tracheostomy and feeding through a tube.
Badby Park supports residents with complex needs who require specialist nursing care, including those with profound injuries to the brain or spinal cord; those requiring mechanical ventilation, tracheostomies or people in a condition of low awareness (or in a persistent vegetative state).
The nurse led-team work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to oversee the care of residents. At the outset, our team carry out a detailed and thorough assessment . Then, with input from members of the multidisciplinary team and the family, a care action plan is devised. This plan is reviewed at regular intervals (4-8 weeks) to assess the progress of the resident and altered accordingly to maintain goals in the care and rehabilitation of the resident.
Our Multidisciplinary team includes : a consultant intensivist, a GP, a consultant in rehabilitation medicine, a neuropsychologist, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapist, dietician, nurses and therapy assistants.
Key aspects of our care plans would include bladder and bowel management, feeding, epilepsy monitoring, long term mechanical ventilation, management of spasticity , tracheostomy care and management of skin integrity.
We have a team of therapy assistants who supervise recreational activities and outings. These range from outdoor activities within our beautiful 58 acre estate including falconry displays, to a range of board games indoors, to organised outings to museums, shops, horse racing at Towester, the seaside, Grand Prix at Silverstone, as well as attending college or work.
Residents are either in the Lantern unit on a continuing care basis, or they move onto the Arbury unit as they progress through a rehabilitation pathway or are discharged to live at home or in a supported living environment.
All rooms in the Lantern have en-suite bathrooms. The majority of the rooms also have French doors (seen in picture) which open up onto a pleasure garden. There are two family/day rooms, one of which opens into a wonderful half an acre walled garden. We have two assisted bathrooms and a room dedicated to families.
If you want to discuss a family member or loved one who may be in need of high dependency care, who may be profoundly disabled, may rely on mechanical ventilation and may benefit from being cared for at the Lantern Centre, our clinical advisors would be more than happy to talk to you.
